Counties Celebrate National Homeownership Month

By: Darrin Dorsett: REALTOR® Magazine Online
During the month of June, county governments will celebrate National Homeownership Month by collaborating with nonprofits and representatives of the housing industry to give information about the home-purchase and mortgage processes to prospective buyers—minorities in particular.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and a dozen federal agencies have teamed up for the Owning Your Future program, offering information about everything from job training and transportation vouchers to housing counseling programs and reverse mortgages.

The fair is making its way to Albuquerque in Bernalillo County, N.M.; New Orleans in Orleans Parish, La., and Orlando in Orange County, Fla., over the next couple of weeks.

Also in Florida, Angelo Kyle, president of the National Association of Counties, will be in Miami-Dade County to praise officials there for their efforts to provide affordable housing for low-income households, disabled residents, and working-class families.
